Have you ever wanted to offer a better price to customers who buy more of a single product? This strategy, known as tiered or bulk pricing, is a fantastic way to increase your average order value. The idea is to change the price based on the quantity a customer selects in woocommerce. For instance, a product might cost $10 for one, but only $8 each if the customer buys five or more.

While this seems like a basic e-commerce feature, WooCommerce doesn’t support it by default. If you want to implement this powerful pricing model, you’ll need a plugin.
This guide will show you the easiest way to set up quantity-based pricing using the Quantity Discounts & Pricing for WooCommerce plugin.
Why Quantity-Based Pricing is So Effective
When customers see a clear path to saving money, they are highly motivated to act. A pricing table on your product page that shows the discounts for buying in bulk does two things:
- It demonstrates the value of your product.
- It encourages customers to spend more than they initially intended.
This is a win-win: your customer gets a better deal, and you get a larger order.
Step 1: Install and Activate the Plugin
First, you’ll need our plugin. Once you have it installed and activated, a new menu will appear under WooCommerce > Quantity Discounts. This is your command center for all pricing rules.
Step 2: Create a Product Quantity Rule
We’re going to create a rule that changes the price for a specific product.
- Navigate to the Product Quantity Rules tab and click “Add New Quantity Rule.”
- Give the rule a name for your own reference, like “Bulk Pricing for Coffee Beans.”
Step 3: Define Your Pricing Tiers
This is where you’ll configure the logic to change the price based on quantity. In the “Quantity Ranges & Discounts” section, you can add as many tiers as you need. Let’s imagine our coffee beans cost $20 per bag.
- Row 1: Set Start Qty: 2, End Qty: 4, Discount Type: Fixed Price, Amount: 18.
- This means if a customer buys 2, 3, or 4 bags, the price for each bag is $18.
- Click + Add Range.
- Row 2: Set Start Qty: 5, End Qty: 999999, Discount Type: Fixed Price, Amount: 16.
- This means if they buy 5 or more, the price for each bag drops to $16.
You can also use Percentage or Fixed Amount discounts if you prefer.

(Pro Tip: Add a screenshot of this section from your plugin here.)
Step 4: Assign the Rule to Your Product
Now, tell the plugin where this rule should apply.
- In the “Conditions & Settings” section, find the Apply On dropdown and select “Specific Products.”
- In the searchable box that appears, type the name of your coffee bean product and select it.
- Click Publish.
Step 5: See It in Action!
That’s it! Now, go to your coffee bean product page on your storefront. You will see a beautiful pricing table clearly displaying the different price points. When a customer changes the quantity in the input box, the active tier will be highlighted, and the discount will be automatically applied when they add the items to their cart. You have successfully configured your store to change the price based on quantity in WooCommerce.
This simple setup can be applied to any product in your store, giving you a powerful tool to drive bigger sales. For more information on pricing strategies, check out this great resource from HubSpot on pricing models.
